All Ages Comics ^^ 8/13/08

It’s good to have a wide selection again!  And it’s a good variety of titles to choose from.  Hollywood has just discovered that in the last few years.  Keep an eye on Clockwork Girl from Arcana Studio, it may become a movie.  You can get a head start on the fall movie season with the prequel and adaptation of Igor, the CGI family movie coming out soon.  Kids don’t seem to mind the story being spoiled for them (my youngest didn’t when she read Shrek 3 before seeing the movie), so go ahead and let them check it out.

Yoko Tsuno Vol 3 Prey and The Ghost – Finding good role models for girls in comics is like finding them on TV; few and far between.  But Cinebook seems to have hit the mark with Yoko Tsuno.  She has everything a girl should want; looks, brains and courage.  She is an electrical engineer, and with her friends, seesm to get drawn into situations that border between science fiction and fantasy.  In this volume, Yoko is in Scotland, and gets drawn into a mystery involving a castle, an orphan girl named Cecilia and ghosts.  Girls need to be exposed to more titles with a heroine like Yoko.

Classics Illustrated Journey to the Center of the Earth – This story has been made into a movie several times, the most recent of which debuted this year IN 3D!  Of course some sacrifices have to be made to bring it to the big screen, and it’s usually the story that suffers.  Thankfully Classics Illustrated is still around to give us the story as it was originally written, showing us this classic has such staying power.  Professor Otto Lindensbrook has found an old piece of paper written in old Icelandic.  Axel, his nephew, translates the paper, and it leads them on an adventure to Iceland, and into an extinct volcano, where they hope to reach the center of the Earth.  While kids may resist reading the books, comics can help open them to these old but great books.  Opening this door can lead to so much more.
