All Ages Comics ^^5/29/08

Even though this is a list for comics, I’ve included a few novels. Avalon: Web of Magic is a reprinting of a series that came out a few years about and went out of print. Seven Seas got it (through Tor no doubt). Now, it would be really cool if Seven Seas did a graphic novel version of these books. Maybe if the books sell well enough, they might!

Knights of the Lunch Table Vol 1 – It’s a retelling of the legend of King Arthur played out on the playground! Artie King has just transfered to Camelot Middle School. He’s not looking to make trouble, but before 2nd period, he’s already made enemies of the school’s mean principal, and the school bully, Mo. But he also makes some friends with Percy and Wayne, and Science teacher Mr. Merlyn. In this first volume, Artie and his friends (the Knights of the Lunch Table) are challenged to a dodgeball game by Mo and his gang (the Horde). The art looks kind of like a cross between Bone and Calvin & Hobbs.

Palette of 12 Secret Colors Vol. 3 – This manga from CMX is truly for all ages. It’s about a girl named Cello who is studying to be a Palette, a wizard that can use colors to do magic. Unfortunately, she’s not very good at it. We follow Cello as tries too pass her tests, visits the schools doctor (to get the color off when she fails), and have the occasional adventure. The characters are wonderful and the stories are sweet. The art is simple but cute. It’s a great title and I highly recommend it to all parents to get for their kids. It’s appropriate for both boys and girls.

  1. [...] at Good Comics for Kids, I’ve got the newest All Ages Comics list up. And, a surprise reviewer has popped up! Manga Village’s Sabrina Fritz has a review [...]

  2. Glad to see some love for The Palette of 12 Secret Colors–I think it’s one of the most enjoyable titles CMX is publishing right now, but I haven’t seen too many reviewers give it the attention it deserves.

  3. I really enjoyed Palette. It was so nice to just be able to sit back and relax, after all the drama and fighting manga I’d been reading lately. It’s in my To Be Reviewed pile that I’m slooooowly getting through.
